Get creative with those nasty old plastic bags

We've seen some brilliant things that people are using their horrible old plastic bags for, including this amazing 1950's Outfit by Cathy Kasdan of Clevland, OH knitted entirely from plastic bags!

Come on Wales, Bin the Bag!

We all know that Ireland has done it, now Wales is set to follow suit and put a levy charge on their plastic bags! At the moment 648 million plastic bags used in Wales annually are distributed free of charge! These bags take 1,000 years to degrade and collectively amount to between 0.1 and 1% of visible litter in the UK.

The Irish Republic introduced a levy on plastic bags in 2002 which resulted in a 90% drop in the use of them across the country while China and Israel also have a charging system in place. Bhutan and Bangladesh have completely outlawed bags with France due to bring in its own national plastic bag ban in January 2010.

Supermarkets such as Tesco, Sainsbury’s and Asda are offering various rewards for reusing bags. When you reuse any bag (including your Trolley Dolly bags) rather than taking a new one you can gain Clubcard points, Nectar points or points for Asda’s Go Green for Schools scheme.
